CRACKAZAT: A Musical Maestro Redefining Jazz and Electronic Music

Ben Jacobs aka Crackazat is a multi-instrumentalist Jazz musician and electronic producer who has quickly become recognized for his unique blend of Jazz and House Music.

“Find the art in your audience and the audience in your art.” Crackazat.

With his mastery of multiple instruments, infectious grooves, and virtuoso performances he has captivated audiences worldwide, pushing boundaries and redefining the genres for a whole new audience.

Originally from Bristol, based in Sweden, Crackazat, took his first rhythmic steps into the world of dance music, tap dancing to jazz tunes with his mum. As he ventured into his teenage years, his musical palette expanded, encompassing a diverse range of genres from underground hip-hop to the jazz-funk grooves of Herbie Hancock and Jamiroquai. He picked up the guitar, and bass and started producing almost immediately.

It was the multi-faceted label Futureboogie Recordings that provided the launchpad for

Crackazat's career, propelling him into the spotlight with his "Tunnel" EP back in 2012.

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Crackazat recalls, “The Bristol house scene was so small back then. I think they heard a broken-beat remix of mine and heard the club potential. I knew nothing about the dance industry at all. Completely green I was.”

Nowadays, this born creator is a brand unto himself. A modern entertainer who has embraced social media as a platform for artistic expression, captivating audiences worldwide, with his infectious energy and mesmerizing mini-performances. "I love playing and performing music on socials," he enthuses, highlighting the accessibility and immediacy of the digital stage. One moment he is sharing a new piece of vinyl, or dropping a ‘beat tape’, the next creating crazy-good grooves from jazz to house in front of our very eyes. Go follow!

Crackazat Has Had A Meteoric Crescendo

From the release of his debut album 'Crescendo' in 2015, his Alfa EP on Heist Recordings in 2021, Crackazat's journey has been marked by a series of milestones and achievements with Evergreen (2022) being one of the most groundbreaking to date. “Releasing Evergreen is the most important moment to me.” He states succinctly.

He has remixed Joey Negro, Moulinex, and Tom Misch, alongside the viral sensation 'Coffee Time', a euphoric house track infused with samples from an acapella group in his hometown of Uppsala. With each release, he pushes the boundaries and redefines genres.

Over the last year, he has released music consistently, like a long-flowing freshwater river.

Honourably, he regards labels, remixes, artists, and colleagues as part of his wider and necessary collaboration team and cites recent alliances with The Potash Twins and Jimpster as some of the best yet.

Check out his awesome Beat Tapes..well worth a download.

The creative process for Ben, is a delicate balance between classical and digital. "I decide what the chords and melodies will be on the piano, then create the rhythms and sounds on the computer," he explains. “For it to work, both must be boiled down to their foundation.” Mixing simultaneously whilst making sounds he confidently knows when the track is finished, when he finds himself focusing on the tiny details or small adjustments.

Her's Live, Dynamic, and Versatile.

Crackazat can deliver a DJ set or put together an electric multi-instrumented live show. Either way, we get Crackazat gold.

Having previously supported Bonobo & Floating Points as well as headlined numerous solo shows, this Jacob Collier of the electronic music world sets the bar high with glorious keyboard grooves, shimmering solos, and general infectious grooviness.

At LSG2024 he will no doubt, set the decks on fire at La Grotta on Saturday night. “I have been to Malta on holiday once. I am very much looking forward to visiting for this time to play music.”

With Eyes On The Horizon

As Crackazat looks to the future, he shows no signs of slowing down and his passion for music burns brighter than ever. With upcoming projects, releases, and collaborations on the horizon, he remains committed to pushing the boundaries of electronic music and inspiring audiences worldwide.

He is not just a DJ, nor just a musician, but a visionary pushing the boundaries of jazz and electronic music. He is a modern-day artist, with a relentless dedication to his craft, and one we shall look forward to watching for a long time.

We asked him to give us a ‘one to watch’ for the future. His response was short, smart, and succinct;

“Sweet Fruity Brunch.” Oh – and he added, “The country of South Africa.” We smiled at his timely nod for the Rainbow Nation and their unparalleled activism to prevent genocide.

We also asked him to share his one message for the world and he dynamically responded, “I warmly direct you to my album Evergreen. It's all in there.”

Consider it done.
